Skoda has revealed the powertrain of the upcoming, fourth-gen Superb, ahead of its global debut later this year. The highly anticipated flagship sedan is set to impress with its performance and features, and the carmaker has provided a glimpse by sharing heavily camouflaged images of the new Superb.
New Powertrain Options
The fourth-gen Superb shares its powertrains with the upcoming second-gen Kodiaq, presenting a range of five engines. Two petrol, two diesel, and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) will be available. The Superb iV, the PHEV variant, features a 150hp, 1.5-litre TSI engine combined with a 25.7kWh battery, delivering a total output of 204hp. This impressive setup is mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Skoda has also promised an electric-only range of over 100km for the Superb PHEV, making it an eco-friendly and efficient option.
Furthermore, the entry-level Superb will be powered by the 1.5-litre TSI engine, equipped with a mild-hybrid system and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. For those seeking even more power, Skoda offers a 2.0-litre TSI engine in two states of tune – 204hp and 265hp. Both versions come with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, while the 265hp variant also boasts a four-wheel-drive system for enhanced performance and handling.
In addition to petrol engines, diesel enthusiasts can opt for the 150hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, or the 193hp variant paired with a four-wheel drive system for added versatility on different terrains.
Stylish Exterior and Dimensions
Though the images are heavily camouflaged, Skoda’s new design direction is evident in the new Superb. The sedan features Skoda’s new grille and slimmer LED headlamps and tail-lamps with crystalline elements, adding a touch of elegance to the overall look. Notably, the front radar sensors for ADAS are integrated into the grille for a seamless appearance, and the car gets air curtains on either side of the bumpers.
Sophisticated Interior and Safety Features
While interior images are yet to be released, Skoda has promised a new 12.9-inch touchscreen display for the new Superb. Inspired by the Kodiaq, the sedan will also feature a steering column-mounted drive selector for added convenience and a touch of modernity. Skoda also mentions that the interior will offer a combination of manual and digital controls, providing drivers with a seamless driving experience. In terms of safety, Skoda has added several Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features to the new Superb. Some notable features include Turn Assist, which warns of potential collisions from oncoming vehicles while turning into side streets, and Crossroad Assist, which detects traffic at intersections with minimal visibility. Skoda has also updated its Front Assist system to include Predictive Cyclist Protection. The new Superb is equipped with a total of 10 airbags, including a central airbag between the front seats, ensuring maximum safety for occupants.Skoda Superb in India
