In an exciting development, a leaked design patent has provided a sneak peek into the upcoming production version of the Mahindra XUV.e8, an electric derivative of the popular XUV700 SUV. The patent image suggests that the production-spec XUV.e8 will closely resemble its concept form, the XUV.e8, which was showcased in August last year. Mahindra’s foray into the electric vehicle segment is eagerly anticipated, and this leaked design gives us a closer look at what to expect.
One of the key observations from the leaked patent image is the striking similarity between the production-spec XUV.e8 and the concept version, as well as the existing XUV700. The body panels are expected to remain almost identical, with only the intricate paint job missing from the concept. However, the XUV.e8 will feature an all-new front fascia with a full-width LED light bar that extends vertically into the bumper. The sealed-off grille, a common feature in electric vehicles, will accommodate new triangular headlamps positioned in the bumper itself.
The profile of the XUV.e8 remains reminiscent of the XUV700, featuring flush door handles, similar character lines, and an identical glasshouse. Notably, the XUV.e8 will sport new aero-optimized wheels, enhancing its aerodynamic efficiency. While the rear design is not visible in the leaked image, it is expected to carry over the design cues from the regular XUV700, as seen in the XUV.e8 concept.
Another eye-catching feature of the XUV.e8 is the prominent copper highlight that accents the glasshouse, headlamp surrounds, bumper inserts, and the iconic twin-peak Mahindra logo. This copper highlight is set to become a signature element of Mahindra’s upcoming electric vehicle lineup, following the footsteps of the already available XUV400.
The leaked design patent also hints that other forthcoming EVs from Mahindra, such as the XUV.e9 and the BE range, will likely maintain a close resemblance to their respective concept versions. This consistency in design language across their electric vehicle lineup showcases Mahindra’s commitment to creating a cohesive and recognizable EV portfolio.
Apart from the design insights, some technical specifications of the XUV.e8 have also been revealed. The electric SUV will be built on Mahindra’s born-electric INGLO skateboard platform, differentiating it from the XUV700. The XUV.e8 will have a length of 4,740mm, width of 1,900mm, and height of 1,760mm, with a wheelbase measuring 2,762mm. Comparatively, it will be slightly longer, wider, and taller than the XUV700, with a slightly extended wheelbase.
Mahindra has confirmed that the XUV.e8 will be equipped with an all-wheel-drive system and will boast a battery pack with a capacity of around 80kWh. Power outputs are expected to range between 230hp and over 350hp, offering a thrilling driving experience. The XUV.e8 is slated to be the first electric vehicle from Mahindra to enter production, with an anticipated launch scheduled for December 2024.
Automotive enthusiasts and eco-conscious consumers alike eagerly await the arrival of the Mahindra XUV.e8. With its distinctive design, promising specifications, and Mahindra’s expertise in the SUV segment, the XUV.e8 has the potential to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle market and contribute to a greener future.
