California-based electric carmaker Fisker Inc. is set to make waves in the Indian market with the announcement of a limited edition of its highly anticipated Ocean electric SUV. Fisker is bringing the top-spec Extreme version of the Ocean SUV to India, but what sets this variant apart is its exclusivity, limited to just 100 units. The Indian model will be known as the Ocean Extreme Vigyan Edition, paying homage to Fisker’s India headquarters in Hyderabad, established in April of last year.
Anticipation has been building since January 2020 when we first reported on Fisker’s interest in bringing the Ocean SUV to India. Now, after entering production late last year, the SUV is finally making its way to the Indian market, and the Extreme version is stealing the spotlight after its unveiling this March.
The Fisker Ocean Extreme Vigyan Edition boasts impressive specifications, featuring a 113kWh battery pack and dual electric motors that generate a powerful 572hp and 737Nm of torque. With an exceptional 0-100kph sprint time of under 4 seconds and a range of 707km on a single charge according to the WLTP cycle, this model claims the highest range among SUVs currently available in Europe.
What truly sets the Ocean SUV apart is its commitment to sustainability. The vehicle showcases vegan interiors, recycled carpets made from regenerated nylon, recycled rubber in various components, and even a solar panel on the roof to enhance its range. Furthermore, the Ocean Extreme Vigyan Edition is equipped with an array of advanced features, including a 17.1-inch revolving touchscreen infotainment system, a digital rear-view mirror, a powered tailgate, a 3D surround sound system, front and rear heated seats, 360-degree cameras, and an array of ADAS features. Additionally, it offers three distinct drive modes named Earth, Fun, and Hyper, catering to various driving preferences.
Fisker aims to align the pricing of the Ocean Extreme Vigyan Edition in India with its European counterparts. In Germany, the Ocean Extreme is priced at €69,950, equivalent to approximately Rs 64.5 lakh, before factoring in import taxes and logistics. Given that it will be fully imported, prices could exceed Rs 1 crore, placing it among other luxury SUVs such as the BMW iX, Audi e-tron, and Jaguar i-Pace.
However, Fisker has expressed interest in establishing a battery and vehicle assembly plant in India, given adequate support from the government. This suggests that the brand is exploring future possibilities for growth in the Indian market. Henrik Fisker, Chairman, and CEO of Fisker Inc., states, “India offers exciting opportunities for us, and we plan to grow our brand rapidly over the coming years.”
The Fisker Ocean Extreme Vigyan Edition is poised to make a strong entry into the Indian electric vehicle market, combining luxury, sustainability, and cutting-edge technology. With only 100 units available, Indian consumers will have a unique opportunity to own an exclusive and environmentally conscious SUV that pushes the boundaries of electric mobility. Deliveries are expected to commence by the fourth quarter of 2023, following homologation for the Indian market.
